Hiring Search for Academic Professional Associate

The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia (https://marsci.uga.edu) seeks an Academic Professional Associate with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023. Located on the main campus in Athens, this is a full-time, non-tenure-track, nine-month faculty position that is part of UGA’s Corps of Instructional faculty. There is a possibility of a summer appointment and stipend based on teaching, service and research interests and/or program needs. The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the ability to work effectively with students and faculty in Marine Sciences; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in pedagogy, communication or their area of scientific expertise as needed; and have a commitment to developing and executing a clear and creative vision for the management of the Marine Sciences instructional laboratory program that is inclusive of underrepresented groups. Responsibilities include: supervising instructional support personnel and Marine Sciences Graduate Teaching Assistants and managing laboratory instructional budgets for maintaining supplies and inventory; designing, developing, and implementing college-level curriculum for the Marine Sciences instructional laboratory program; and contributing to the growing Ocean Science B.S. and Marine Sciences M.S. and Ph.D. programs in general. The ideal candidate will secure funding to improve instruction and outreach programs, work with departmental faculty to develop broader impact efforts, engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and present and/or publish creative works at appropriate venues. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Science Education, or other related fields and at least one year of instructional experience.
