Research Interests:

Activities in the Joye Research Group aim to discover, document, resolve, and understand the complex interactions that drive elemental cycling in coastal and open ocean environments across the globe. Our purpose is to elucidate feedbacks between environmental, microbiological, and biogeochemical dynamics. Our research examines the effects of climate change and anthropogenic disturbances on critical environmental processes to gain a better understanding of how future changes in forcing (e.g. temperature, salinity, sea level, storm frequency, etc.) will affect ecosystem function.

Events Featuring...

On the lawn of the Physics Building facing Sanford Drive

Dr. Samantha Joye and the ECOGIG team will launch "Science at the Stadium", a unique, exciting series of Education and Public Outreach events. Dr. Joye and several members of the ECOGIG research team will be on hand, teaching aspiring ocean explorers about the Gulf of Mexico!  The event will feature an educational video about the Gulf and small remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) in a water tank that can be operated by children (or young adults). Participants will receive a laminated Pilot’s license with their name on it.

Little Kings, 233 W. Hancock, Athens

Dr. Mandy Joye will be speaking at the Athens Science Cafe, a free monthly seminar held at Little Kings at 7pm. Come out and join us for her talk, titled:"Oil in Deep Water: The Gulf's Response to the BP Oil Spill."
