Our
Favorite Water Quality Websites
Water water everywhere,
it's time to stop and think! Do you ever wonder about water? Where it
comes from? How it gets from one place to another? How clean is it, and
how can we make it cleaner? Whose water is it? And whose responsibility
is it to protect this life-giving resource?
Increasingly, water quality issues are front page news. Whether in relation
to set-back regulations for developers, intra-state water rights, saltwater
intrusion into aquifers or groundwater pollution from hog and chicken
farms, clean water is no longer something we take for granted. Reflecting
this reality, scientists and researchers are addressing the need for more
extensive data on Georgia's watershed, and educators are focusing more
on water quality in the classroom. The internet is a vast repository of
water-related information, but it can also be an intractable swamp of
dead-end websites.
We've taken the time to survey many water-related internet sites with
an eye towards utility and function. We have tried to avoid private sites
that advocate specific political positions or have for-profit agendas.
Instead, we have concentrated on educational, non-profit and governmental
sites. Admittedly, some of these sites will be more useful than others,
however, we feel certain that at least some sites on the following list
will be helpful to you in your own water quality research. A brief abstract
preceeds each entry and provides an overview of the website.
