The University of Georgia's Department of Marine Sciences is an interdisciplinary department of biological, chemical, and physical oceanography, with special emphasis on coastal and estuarine processes.

Research interests range from the ecology of bacteria and phytoplankton, to inorganic and organic biogeochemistry, to coastal circulation modeling.

The Department has ongoing research projects in the following areas:
